As a Varsity member each player will have certain ROLES to help the TEAM succeed and qualify for the D-I playoffs.

The TEAM's objectives and overall success will ALWAYS come before any INDIVIDUAL desires and goals.

A player who puts their own INDIVIDUAL desires and goals before the TEAM'S objectives will not be tolerated.

Led by an 11 hit attack, West Warwick defeated Ponaganset, 13-9, in their home opener.  During this non-league game against Division I West Warwick and Division II Ponaganset, the Wizards offense was the difference in the game.

     Offensively, the Wizards were led by Garrett Deblois (2 for 4, one triple, 3 r.b.i.'s, and 2 runs scored), Kurtis Melvin (2 for 2, 2 r.b.i.'s, and 2 runs scored), Dom Bisceglio (1 for 2, 1 r.b.i.), Max Motroni (1 for 3, one double), Ryan Lawton (1 for 4, 1 r.b.i, and 2 runs scored), John Morrison (1 for 2, one double), Jim Thornton (1 for 3), Nick Carney (1 for 2, 1 r.b.i.), and Nathan Lacroix (1 for 2, 1 r.b.i.).

Although West Warwick gave up 9 runs (6 earned) on 7 hits, they received some solid pitching from several players.  Amine Malki struck out six in the first two innings.  Dillon Coffua struck out four in a 1 2/3 innings of work.   Cam Genest, who worked 1 1/3 innings of middle relief, struck out one and threw 60% of his pitches for strikes.  Scott Tallo pitched a solid sixth inning by striking out two batters and throwing 12 of 15 pitches for strikes.  Junior Kurtis Melvin allowed just one run on no hits while striking out two in the seventh.

West Warwick opens up their league season on Monday at East Greenwich.  The game which was originally scheduled to be at McCarthy Field as changed.

The West Warwick Wizards started their 2009 league season with a 2-1 road win over the East Providence Townies.

Led by the combined two-hit pitching of seniors Richard Lizotte and Anthony Giarusso, the Wizards were able to hold onto the crossover win over their I-East opponent.  Lizotte struck out five, walked four, allowed one hit and one earned run in the first three innings.  Giarusso, who picked up the victory, allowed only one hit while striking out four in the last four innings of the game.  Giarusso, who seemed to get stronger with every pitch, threw only five pitches in a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

After two scoreless innings, West Warwick took a brief 1-0 lead with one out in the top of the third inning.  Jeff Sampaio singled to right field, stole second base, advanced to third base on a single by Dillon Coffua, and scored on Sam Williamson's ground out to short.

In the top of the fifth inning, Derek Hebert singled, advanced to second base on Sampaio's sacrifice bunt, and later scored on a two out error on a grounder by Aaron Richards.

Offensively, the Wizards were led by Tim Parente (2 for 3), Jeff Sampaio (1 for 2, one run scored), Dillon Coffua (1 for 3), Derek Hebert (1 for 3, one run scored), and Charley Parent (1 for 3).

Defensively, the Wizards received errorless ball from infielders Chris Morrison (3B), Rich Lizotte (SS), Jeff Sampaio (SS,2B), Sam Williamson (2B), Dillon Coffua (1B), and Matt Grosso (1B).
