News and Announcements

1.  Pitchers can pitch six innings in one week (Sunday-Saturday).  One pitch in an inning constitutes one inning pitched.
2.  Starting Pitchers may re-enter a game provided they are not removed as a pitcher on the second visit of an inning
by a coach.
3.  If a pitcher pitches three or more innings, they need to have two complete days of rest.  Note:  If a pitcher pitched
three innings on Monday, they would not be able to pitch on Tuesday or Wednesday.
4.  Offense/Defense Swing Players:  Players, who are designated to "swing" the game, must alternate per inning and per at bat.
Defense:  Player A would play the odd inning (1,3,5) & Player B would play the even innings (2,4,6).
Offense:  Player A would bat up the "odd" numbered plate appearance & Player B would bat up the "even" numbered plate appearance.
5.  Managers have the option to either swing or "split" players.  If a manager decides to "split" players, each player will bat once &
play nine outs in the field … provided the game is six innings long.
6.  Extra Hitters do not swing/split.  They will bat the entire game.  A player can not EH two consecutive games in a row.

Led by the pitching of Amine Malki and a three run fourth inning, the Wizards were able to upset the Quakers of Moses Brown, 3-2.

Malki, who struck out six and walked none in six innings, allowed just two earned runs on eight hits.  Richard Lizotte, who picked up his first save of the year, closed the game by striking out the first three batters in the Quaker order in the seventh inning.

After falling behind 2-0 after three innings, the Wizards scored three runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Aaron Richards led off the inning with a double and scored when Tim Parente doubled down the left field line.  One pitch later, Rich Lizotte doubled to the gap in right center, tying the game at 2-2.  Charley Parent, then, blooped a single to right field, allowing Lizotte to race home with the third run of the inning.

Although the Wizards received eight strikeouts from the pitching, they did receive solid defense from first baseman Matt Grosso, who had five assists in the game.

Offensively, the Wizards were led by Aaron Richards (3/4, one double, one run scored), Tim Parente (one r.b.i. double), Rich Lizotte (two doubles and one r.b.i.), Charley Parent (one r.b.i. single), Sam Williamson (one single), Jeff Sampaio (one single), and Chris Morrison (2/3).

Despite not having the opportunity to play as a team during the summer of 2008, the Wizards continue to play competively in Division I this spring.  One year after finishing 4-14 in league play, the Wizards are now 3-3 in league play and 4-4 overall against Division I opponents.

Led by the pitching of senior Richard Lizotte, the Wizards defeated the Avengers of East Greenwich, 7-2, in a game played under rainy conditions.  Lizotte, who has gone the distance in Wizards' last two victories, did not allow an earned run while striking out 11 batters and allowing only five hits.  In fact, Lizotte recorded 8 of his 11 strikeouts in the last four innings.

In the top of the first inning, West Warwick took a 1-0 lead when Aaron Richards singled, moved to second on a fielding error, and scored on Richard Lizotte's double off the centerfield fence.

After allowing two unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning, the Wizards tied the game at 2-2 when Richards doubled and Lizotte singled to left scoring Richards.

In the top of the fourth inning, West Warwick took the lead with one run on two hits and an error.  Charley Parent led off with a double.  After Dominic Bisceglio entered the game as a pinch runner, Sam Williamson's single to centerfield was mishandled allowing Bisceglio to score.

After Richard Lizotte struck out the side on nine pitches in the bottom of the fourth inning, West Warwick broke the game open with three runs on two hits, one walk, one hit batsman, and one error.  Jeff Sampaio led off the inning by beating out a slow infield grounder.  Aaron Richards followed with a walk, putting runners at first and second.  After one out, Lizotte singled loading the bases.  One out later, Charley Parent was hit by a pitch, forcing Sampaio in with the Wizards fourth run.  Sam Williamson, then, hit a hard grounder to second base which was misplayed allowing two unearned runs to score.

In the of the sixth inning, the Wizards scored an insurance run when freshman Max Motroni doubled, moved to third on a Jeff Sampaio's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Aaron Richards' sacrifice fly to left field.

Offensively, the Wizards had 8 of their starting nine reach safely via a hit.  Recording hits for the Wizards were Jeff Sampaio, Aaron Richards (single, double, three runs scored, and 1 r.b.i.), Rich Lizotte (two singles, one double, one run scored, and 2 r.b.i.'s), Derek Hebert, Charley Parent (one double and 1 r.b.i.), Sam Williamson, Chris Morrison, and Max Motroni (one double and one run scored).

Led by the solid relief pitching of junior Sam Williamson, the Wizards held off the Chargers of Chariho, 5-3, to improve to 2-1 in league play.  Williamson's effort, which earned him the game ball, was extremely solid.  In five innings of relief, the junior struck out two batters and allowed only one run on three hits.

After starting pitcher, Dillion Coffua, worked out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning (two walks and an wind-blown infield hit), via a strike out and a catch by catcher Nick Carney in foul territory, the Wizards scored three runs in the top half of the second inning.

Jim Thornton led off the second inning with a walk, moved to second on Nate Lacroix's single to centerfield, and advanced to third when Cam Genest walked.  Chris Franklin, then, walked forcing in Thornton with the Wizards first run.  Domenic Bisceglio followed with a two run single, scoring Lacroix and Genest for a 3-0 lead.

After Chariho scored two runs on five walks in the bottom of the second inning, the Wizards scored two runs in the top of the third inning on hits by Garrett DeBlois (r.b.i. double scoring Max Motroni who had walked) and Jim Thornton (r.b.i. single).

Offensively, the Wizards received contributions from  Dom Biceglio (two singles and two r.b.i.'s), Max Motroni (single and one run scored), Garrett DeBlois (one single, one double, and one r.b.i.), Jim Thornton (r.b.i. single), Nate Lacroix (single), and Chris Franklin (one r.b.i.).

Defensively, the Wizards received solid play from centerfielder Max Motroni (four put outs and one assist).  The assist cut down a potential "fourth" run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  On a single with the bases loaded, Motroni charged the ball quickly, hit his cut-off man,(Nate Lacroix) perfectly, who then proceeded to throw a perfect strike to catcher Nick Carney.  Infielders Jim Thornton, Cam Genest, Nate Grandchamp, and Nate Lacroix handled 10 chances without committing an error.

Despite receiving some quality pitching from Tony Correia and Drew Doran, Deering lost 9-0 to perennial Middle School power, Western Hills.

Western Hills, who was held scoreless the first two innings, scored nine runs on nine hits and six errors to break open the game in the middle innings.

Offensively, Deering received contributions from Greg D'Ambrosca (one walk), Chris Stafford (one double), Evan Barrera (one walk), Ryan O'Kelly (one double), Troy Lavoie (two singles).
