2019 Rhode Island Connie Mack State Champions

The Cranston Bulldogs came back from being down in the championship series to win the deciding game Sunday afternoon (8/11) at Providence Country Day by defeating a very good LaSalle team 3-0.

Cranston scored its first run in the top of the first on a one out triple by Ranier Vargas, followed by an RBI single by Jake SanAntonio.

Ranier Vargas’s speed on the base paths created havoc for LaSalle defense all day. His presence allowed Cranston to score it’s second run as Griff Martin came home from third on an errant throw by an infielder who was attempting to throw a speedy Vargas out. The Bulldogs final run was scored when Vargas came home from third base on a fielder’s choice after stealing two bases in the sixth inning.

However, the story of the game was the MVP of the series, pitcher Noah Rennick. Noah was in complete control the entire game, allowing only one runner to advance to third base. While keeping LaSalle’s big bats in check with his off-speed pitching, he maintained his poise throughout the game. It was his second shutout of the playoffs. This game was befitting of a championship game between two well-coached teams. LaSalle made some outstanding diving stops by their shortstop and third baseman as well as a diving catch by their Centerfielder. Both pitchers had their best stuff and Cranston’s outfield speed played a major role in keeping LaSalle in check. For the Bulldogs, who avenged last year’s loss to Narragansett, they captured their third Connie Mack championship since joining one (2012) of Rhode Island’s most competitive wooden bat league for players 18 and under.
