With the game tied at 2-2, West Warwick scored four runs on one hit (Matt Masse’s two run single), three walks (Matt Peterson, Ryan Goddard, and Chris Stafford), and one error to take a 6-2 lead.

 West Warwick 7 Darlington 1

Led by a four run outburst in the bottom of the third inning, West Warwick broke open a scoreless game and defeated to a 7-1 victory over Darington (Pawtucket).

Picking up the victory for West Warwick was Matt Masse.  In five innings of work, Masse struck out five batters and allowed no runs on three hits.  After allowing one solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, Kyle Beck struck out the side to the end the game.

In the bottom of the third inning, West Warwick scored four runs on hits by Matt Peterson (single), Matt Masse (single), and Chris Stafford (double).

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Ryan O’Kelly made it 5-0 when he hit his second home run of the tournament.

 Team Highlights:

West Warwick, who advanced to the Loser’s Bracket Semi-Finals in the 11 year old New England Regional, hope to better last year’s 2-2 record.  This year’s group, which features a deep pitching staff, looks to be in position to better last year’s record.

West Warwick’s pitching staff looks to be deeper this year.  Heading the list of West Warwick’s deep staff is Matt Masse.  Masse, who was a workhorse in the State Tournament, struck out 15 batters and allowed only four earned runs in 12 inning of work.  Matt Peterson, who pitched a three hitter in the opener of the State Tournament, has a plethora of tournament experience.  In addition to Masse and Peterson, Kyle Beck and Ryan Goddard have had success on the mound in local league play this year.  In fact, Beck and Goddard struck out 94 batters and walked only 32 in 65 innings pitched this year.  Other pitchers, who could toe the mound are Ryan O’Kelly, Drew Doran, Andrew Hebert, and James Kaplan.
